WHO: My name is Ms Susan Apple.

WHAT: I am a 5th grade teacher.

WHERE: I teach at Greensburg Elementary School in room # B1.

WHEN: I have been a teacher sine 1976 - wow, that is ... a long time!!.

WHY: I was inspired to be a teacher by my Aunt Olive. I loved my Aunt and many of the days I spent in her classroom are my favorite memories. I knew from a very young age that something about what she did was special and important. Although much has changed since those years, children still come to school to learn. Whether school lessons are learned in an old one-room-schoolhouse or a grand new school with all the most modern technology and resources, children still learn valuable lessons in school that support them through their entire lives - things about themselves and their future relationships with the world and others. This is the rich legacy that my Aunt Olive left me.

OTHER TRIVIA: I was raised in Salem, Indiana. In my childhood, I enjoyed riding bikes with friends around my small home-town. We often found stray dogs during our adventures. I begged my father to give them medical care. He was a medical doctor and was not always thrilled to have dogs as patients.Once the animals were healed and bathed, I placed the smaller dogs in baskets and rode my bike to the town square to find them homes - usually successfully. My love for dogs continues. My home is home to six dogs, ranging in size from 5 pounds to 110 pounds.

I graduated from IU and began teaching that same year. I collect old Indiana milk bottles and cast iron skillets. I live in rural Jennings County and enjoy feeding wildlife and spending time with family and friends, and relaxing with the dogs. I am blessed to live in the "log cabin of my dreams!"

I spend most of my spring & fall breaks at either Cape Hatteras, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina or Charleston, South Carolina. This retreat gives me my replenishment of peace and serenity!
